Some brief new information on Codename Red has been revealed in a recent report related to the Assassin's Creed series from Ubisoft. In the second half of 2022, Ubisoft revealed Codename Red, a new Assassin's Creed game that would be included in Assassin's Creed Infinity and bring the series to feudal Japan for the first time. And while though there hasn't been a lot of information released about what Codename Red will contain just yet, we now have a better understanding of what to look forward to when it releases in the future.
According to a report from Insider Gaming, some early information surrounding Assassin's Creed: Codename Red has been unveiled. Despite this new report providing much-anticipated info, there is still very little we know about the game. Codename Red will also emphasize stealth more than other recent Assassin's Creed games. In addition, the article continues by saying that Codename Red's development is "in good shape," which means that we may hear more about it later this year.
In an interview back in September, Vice President Executive Producer, Marc-Alexis Cote explains why it has taken so long for the Assassin’s Creed franchise finally come to feudal Japan.
"I feel we now have the expertise and the knowledge to tackle a subject that is more difficult to address," Côté stated. "Yes, we've wanted to do Japan before, but I think the teams have reached a level of maturity in the way they research history that allows them to approach this culture that's very different from our own in a way that will feel true to both the culture and to the way we approach settings in Assassin's Creed. We really feel that this is a setting and a culture that we need to nail. We need to have an absolutely exceptional product. Given the high expectations that people have, and that I've always had, I feel we have the team, we have the knowledge, we have the research structure to be able to support an exceptional-quality product."
As previously reported, Codename Red is slated to be the first game to launch as a part of Assassin's Creed Infinity, which will serve as a sort of new home for future Assassin's Creed games. In addition to Codename Red, Ubisoft has also revealed Codename Hexe, which appears to move the franchise to Salem during the 1692 witch trials. Red is expected to release before Hexe, so it's probable that we won't hear anything for a while regarding that game.
Assassin's Creed Infinity will be a sizable live-service game platform with a variety of locations. It has been officially verified by the company that the Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Quebec teams will indeed collaborate on the project. It's also worth noting that Assassin's Creed Infinity is merely the project's codename and that no specific release date has been disclosed.
In the near future, Assassin's Creed Mirage, a brand-new standalone installment in the franchise, is scheduled to debut later in 2023. To start off the new year, Ubisoft hasn't revealed anything about Mirage, but whenever it does launch, it will be available on the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC.
