David Ayer, who directed Suicide Squad, has published a new image of Jared Leto as the Joker, this will surely keep fans' interest in his version of the movie alive, #ReleaseTheAyerCut. Leto is depicted as the Joker in the picture wearing a pricey tuxedo-style suit that has showy golden lace embroidery on it, featuring a huge skull on one lapel and an Illuminati eye on the other. To further hint at all they tried with Leto's portrayal of the Joker, Ayer captioned the image with the word “Experiments."
Nobody should be surprised that Leto's interpretation of the Joker is still one of the most divisive ones to date. Yet, a large portion of that may be attributable to the fact that Leto was only able to portray the campy aspects of his Joker in the theatrical version rather than in the original Director's Cut.
The "Ayer Cut" of Suicide Squad is a version of the 2016 superhero film that was directed by David Ayer. This cut is said to be the original version of the movie that was significantly altered during post-production to make it more comedic and light-hearted. According to Ayer and some of the actors involved, the final version of the film did not reflect their original vision and was heavily influenced by studio interference. As a result, there has been a growing campaign by fans to see the release of the Ayer Cut, which is said to be darker, more character-driven, and closer to the original script. While there has been no official confirmation of the release of the Ayer Cut, the campaign has gained momentum, and many are hopeful that it will eventually see the light of day.

"I put my life into Suicide Squad. I made something amazing. My cut is an intricate and emotional journey with some bad people who are shit on and discarded (a theme that resonates in my soul). The studio cut is not my movie. Read that again. And my cut is not the 10-week director's cut – it's a fully mature edit by Lee Smith standing on the incredible work by John Gilroy. It's all Steven Price's brilliant score, with not a single radio song in the whole thing. It has traditional character arcs, amazing performances, a solid third-act resolution. A handful of people have seen it.” David Ayer said about his version.
David Ayer praised DC Comics movie fans for their critical feedback in December. The recent changes at DC Films by Peter Safran and James Gunn have caused turmoil among fans on social media. As they leave their mark on the beloved universe, some of the Zack Snyder-era material is being rebooted or sidelined. Fans of those characters and the SnyderVerse have expressed their opposition to these changes. Gunn has responded that “mean tweets” won't affect their decisions, but Ayer considers it an expected aspect of the job. However, the Suicide Squad director feels like that comes with the territory.
Ayer responds to Gunn’s tweet, “I always saw the negativity as a testament to the power of these characters. There’s something deeply mythological in them that ignites passion on both sides.”
Fans have started online campaigns and petitions to show their interest and support for the release of the Ayer Cut. The most effective way to make it happen is to keep expressing their desire for the Ayer Cut through social media and online petitions. Whether or not Warner Bros will eventually release it is yet to be seen, but the fans' voices could help sway the decision.
