This week saw the release of the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Resident Evil: Death Island film. Some of the most iconic Resident Evil characters, including Leon S. Kennedy, Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, and others, will appear in the computer-generated animated feature.
Although Resident Evil: Death Island doesn't currently have a specific release date outside of the broad summer 2023 window, we do already know some information about it that helps to establish the storyline.
The first teaser trailer for the film was released exclusively by IGN, and it features plenty of zombies as well as some of those fan-favorite characters. The trailer also makes references to characters like Rebecca Chambers and various zombie subspecies, leaving fans to be excited and speculating.
We don't need to guess about the movie's overall story, though. The Resident Evil: Death Island plot summary is provided below:
“D.S.O. agent Leon S. Kennedy is on a mission to rescue Dr. Antonio Taylor from kidnappers, when a mysterious woman thwarts his pursuit. Meanwhile, B.S.A.A. agent Chris Redfield is investigating a zombie outbreak in San Francisco, where the cause of the infection cannot be identified. The only thing the victims have in common is that they all visited Alcatraz Island recently. Following that clue, Chris and his team head to the island, where a new horror awaits them.”
Despite not being addressed in the movie's plot summary, you'll see a brief cutaway to Jill Valentine, another beloved character from the Resident Evil franchise, towards the very end of the video.

Fans who are familiar with Resident Evil: Vendetta, an animated feature that came out in 2017, would find it interesting to learn that this is a sequel to that film. Even though it didn't necessarily receive great reviews, the film, which starred Leon S. Kennedy, Chris Redfield, and Rebecca Chambers, was still loved by the series' fans as a whole.
Resident Evil: Death Island is the fourth entry in the CGI film series based on the popular video game franchise. Resident Evil: Degeneration from 2008 and Resident Evil: Damnation from 2012 were the first two movies in the series.
Resident Evil: Death Island is directed by Eiichiro Hasumi, who directed the mini-series Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness and the screenplay is from Resident Evil: Vendetta’s Makoto Fukami.
Resident Evil: Death Island will be released in the Summer of 2023.
