In the recent episode of Amazon’s SMARTLESS podcast, Ben Affleck seems to confirm he wants another crack at playing the Batman. The actor/director revealed to had a great experience portraying the dark knight in the upcoming DCEU movie, The Flash. With Ben Affleck returning to play Batman in new scenes for Zack Snyder’s Justice League and a cameo in Aquaman an The Lost Kingdom, it doesn’t appear Affleck is done with the Cape Crusader.
Ben Affleck has been a fan favorite to portray the caped crusader since he was first announced as Batman for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2013. After a short time in the role, Affleck hung up his cape and cowl, but it seems like he may not be ready to walk away just yet.
In the podcast, Affleck revealed to his co-hosts a spoiler in The Flash movie and explain how this scene made him feel,
“That movie’s good, that movie is really good, they made a good one. And it’s my best s— I’ve done as Batman, I’ve finally figured out how to play the guy. I was like, hold on, I know I quit and I know I came back but I got it now.”
Despite his initial enthusiasm for the role, Affleck's time as Batman was fraught with issues. The well-known awful experience the cast and crew had filming reshoots of Justice League, under the direction of Joss Whedon, was a significant blow to the actor's confidence in the role. Additionally, personal issues and struggles with alcoholism also contributed to his decision to step away from the character.
However, much like Batman himself, Affleck overcame these troubles and return as The Dark Knight to film a new Knightmare scene for the ending of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The actor is known to be quite loyal and has praised Snyder on many occasions and even helped fund the filming for the new scene, which took place in Zack Snyder’s backyard. Ben Affleck returns once again, rumor to be only as Bruce Wayne, in a cameo for the Aquaman sequel.
Ever since the success of Zack Snyder's Justice League, which featured Affleck's Batman prominently, there has been renewed interest in the actor continuing in the role. Fans have taken to social media to voice their support for the actor to campaigning #SellZSJLToNetflix and #SellSnyderVerseToNetflix, and it seems like Affleck himself is open to the possibility after The Flash.
Much like the return of Henry Cavill’s Superman, James Gunn and Peter Safran rebooted DCU, seemly crushed any plans for any characters from the SnyderVerse to return. Although there were hopes Affleck would at least return to direct a DCU movie, with many considering it to be Batman: The Brave and the Bold. However, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ben Affleck confirmed very firmly, “I would not direct something for the [James] Gunn DC. Absolutely not.”
With Affleck's positive experience on The Flash, enormous hype surrounding Snyder-Con 2, which was sold out in less than 10 mins, and almost all other DCEU movies failing at the box office, hopefully, Warner Bro’s Discovery see their mistake and restore the SnyderVerse, whether its for DC Elseworlds or Netflix.
Snyder-Con 2 will start on April 28th, The Flash will release in theaters on June 16, 2023, and Zack Snyder’s epic sci-fi, Rebel Moon: Part 1 will be on December 22, 2023, with rumors of a wide theater release.
Ben Affleck directed and stars with Matt Damon in the movie, AIR releasing this April 5, 2023.
