The December 2023 debut of Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon is getting closer and closer. As a result, more announcements are made before the official marketing campaign starts, revealing information about the Netflix production.
Rebel Moon is the first entry in another Snyder franchise on Netflix, similar to Army of the Dead and its spinoff titles, Army of Thieves and the planned Planet of the Dead and Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas. Snyder pitched it as a Star Wars movie to Lucasfilm when the project first started, but it was later rebuilt as an original IP. A promotional video from Netflix that listed the movies coming out in 2023 included a brief clip of the upcoming Sci-fi epic, which led to the release of additional information. Although there has not yet been an official teaser, fans are hoping to see one at this year's Tudam event.
Rebel Moon will be a trilogy, as previously revealed by Marian Lee, the head of marketing at Netflix. Now, according to Netflix Brazil, the first installment will be called "The Child of Fire." The character Kora, played by Sofia Boutella, is most likely the subject of this subtitle from Part 1, as she can be seen in several recently published behind-the-scenes photos. Even more thrilling is the news from Dolby Cinema that Rebel Moon Part 1: The Child of Fire will be seen in theaters concurrently with its streaming on Netflix.
It is still to be determined if the theatrical release will be worldwide and if the Netflix version of Rebel Moon will be the same. In a March 2023 interview with SlashFilm, Zack Snyder's next sci-fi film's sound mixer Andy Koyama disclosed that the movie will include extended R-rated versions. The rated R extended director's cuts of Watchmen, Batman v Superman, and Zack Snyder's Justice League are among the director's best-known works. Therefore, the visionary director's decision to do the same with Rebel Moon should not come as a surprise.
Many spinoff projects for Rebel Moon are already in development, according to an update by insider MyTimeToShineHello. One of these projects is the "ridiculously scaled" tabletop role-playing game or video game adaptation of Rebel Moon. A graphic novel and animated series are also in development, as previously revealed by Zack Snyder. Prior to the movie's debut, V. Castro will publish a novelization of the upcoming film.
Unlike his time with Warner Bros., who referred to the Snyder cut as a mistake, Netflix obviously has faith in Snyder, since the filmmaker appears to have creative freedom to realize his vision. Zack Snyder's Justice League received high marks from critics, was referred to be a "global phenomenon," and is still the only movie to crash HBO Max's servers when it first came out. With the first official teaser just around the horizon, fans of Snyder are anxious to see Rebel Moon achieve the same success for Netflix. The combination of Star Wars and Samurai-inspired themes is undoubtedly enough to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon Part 1: The Child of Fire is scheduled to be released theatrically and on Netflix on December 22, 2023.
