In light of the new management at DC Studios, Zack Snyder stated that a possible return to the DC Universe has not yet been discussed with Warner Bros. Discovery.
In an interview with The Preston & Steve Show on 93.3 WMMR in Philadelphia, Snyder discussed the possibilities of returning to the DC Universe. When questioned, Snyder stated that no one from the new DC Studios, now being headed by James Gunn and Peter Safran, had gotten in touch with him, but the director was interested in seeing their next films. Zack Snyder continued, that he had been hard at work with Rebel Moon, his upcoming sci-fi epic with Netflix.
"As far I know, which is very little, I'm doing my thing and haven't had anyone give me a call or anything. I'm just wishing them all the best and hoping they make some cool movies.” Snyder said during the interview.
There have been recurring speculations surrounding Zack Snyder's return to DC since the release of his cut of the Justice League. When Jason Momoa "accidentally" revealed Ben Affleck's involvement as Batman in the upcoming Aquaman sequel, those rumors gained new life. Then, in recent weeks, Henry Cavill made a comeback as Superman in a small cameo in Black Adam, and rumors of a standalone Superman film started to spread.
Following the announcement that James Gunn and Peter Safran will serve as co-heads of DC Studios, speculation over the director's potential return increased then as well. All DC Comic's live-action and animated movies and TV shows will be overseen by Gunn, who has previously worked as a director for MCU and DCEU, and Safran, who has previously produced DC movies. It has been suggested that Snyder might make a comeback to the DC Universe because Gunn and Snyder have once collaborated and are believed to still be good friends.
According to many reliable sources, Zack Snyder can’t reveal whether or not he has been contacted or is returning, due to being under an NDA contract with Netflix. This is a common practice in Hollywood, an example would be Andrew Garfield denying his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home. It is noteworthy, that James Gunn is still working at Marvel Studios and is the co-head of DC Studios. Could Zack Snyder not be able to work for both Netflix and DC? Though, James Gunn could have received a different contract after his firing by Disney, making it so that he can work for both. Zack Snyder’s contract with Netflix is said to expire in 2023. It was reported a while ago, Snyder has given the new CEO David Zaslav, updated scripts/storyboards for future Justice League movies.
Despite it being 10 years and 6 years, since the theatrical release of Man of Steel and Batman V Superman, and over a year since the HBO Max release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the demand for the restoration of the SnyderVerse is still going strong. The popularity of SnyderVerse isn’t something one can deny. Hopefully, the new regime of WBD and DC doesn’t make the same mistake as the old regime by ignoring and demonizing Zack Snyder and his fans.
